Podium Finish for Sheppard at Golden Isles
Rocket1 Racing kicked off the grueling Georgia-Florida Speedweeks at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
Friday night’s Super Bowl of Racing event was nixed by rain. On Saturday, Sheppard drove the Valvoline No.1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Gunters Honey/ Ace Metal Works/ Durham Racing Engines-powered XR1 Rocket Chassis to a third-place finish.
“I was too nice out there. Thanks to my guys for giving me a great race car,” Sheppard commented on his performance. “In the early stages of the race I could’ve done better. Congratulations to Timmy [McCreadie] and [Brandon] Overton they did a really good job tonight. I wish I could have done better for the team; they worked their tails off.”
In a field of 45 drivers, Brandon finished second in his heat race behind Devin Moran to lock into the sixth-starting spot for the $12,000-to-win main event. At the completion of the 50-lapper, Shepperd advanced three positions to place third behind race winner, Tim McCreadie, and Brandon Overton. Mike Marlar and Jonathan Davenport completed the Top-5 finishers.
