Brandon Sheppard claims first 2022 Speedweeks win at All-Tech
Thursday night found Brandon Sheppard and Rocket1 Racing visiting Victory Lane for the first time in 2022 with their Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model. The triumph was worth $10,000 and came at Florida’s All-Tech Raceway.
After seeing Friday night’s program nixed by Mother Nature, the team returned to action at the ½-mile oval on Saturday night, where they registered a fifth-place finish.
“Glad to get our first win of the year off our backs, and it’s also great to get back to Victory Lane at Speedweeks. We’ve won a lot of races over the past few years, but it’s been a minute since we’ve been to Victory Lane at Speedweeks. We ended that skid tonight,” Sheppard said in Victory Lane. “We just stopped messing ourselves up. I feel like we’ve been over-adjusting a little bit. We had a good car all night long, and then we think we’re making ourselves better for the feature and then we always seem to be just a little bit off. So we kind of came into tonight thinking we weren’t gonna change quite as much and it really paid off.”
Speedweeks 2022 action resumed on Thursday night at All-Tech Raceway (Lake City, Fla.). Brandon Sheppard topped the 43-car Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) field in time trials before streaking to a heat race win.
Leading every lap but the seventh circuit of the feature, Sheppard raced to his first win of the season in the Rocket1 Racing entry and 22nd-career LOLMDS triumph. He finished ahead of Devin Moran, Jonathan Davenport, Shane Clanton, and Ricky Thornton Jr. to claim $10,000.
After seeing Friday’s program washed away the team was back to business on Saturday night with a $15,000-to-win program at All-Tech Raceway. Brandon started sixth in the feature and advanced to a fifth-place finish at the checkered flag behind Jimmy Owens, Tim McCreadie, Jonathan Davenport, and Devin Moran.
