Seventh in Gateway Dirt Nationals opener in St. Louis
Brandon Sheppard returned to action on Thursday with a visit to the Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis, Mo.) donning a new wrap on his Sheppard Riggs Racing No. B5 Late Model highlighting his new partnership with Budweiser and Veterans Golfers Association.
With 119-car field divided into two groups for prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s main event, Sheppard laid down the fifth-fastest time in his group before placing second in his heat. Starting the $5,000-to-win preliminary feature in 10th, Brandon clawed forward three spots in the 30-lapper to finish seventh.
Rolling off on the front row of his qualifier on Saturday, Brandon outran Ricky Thornton Jr. to pick up the 12-lap victory. Earning the seventh-starting position for the $30,000-to-win Gateway Dirt Nationals finale, Sheppard was an early retiree from the 40-lap affair on lap 21. He was scored 16th on the final rundown.
