Brandon Sheppard visits Volusia for DIRTcar Nationals
For the 52nd annual Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, Brandon Sheppard invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Monday to pilot his TrueTimber Camo No. B5 Late Model.
With a third-place finish in his heat race placing him on the fifth row for the Monday’s opener, Brandon carried a steady pace in the 25-lapper to finish 10th.
On Tuesday, Sheppard followed up the fourth-fastest lap in his qualifying group with a second-place finish in his heat. With $7,000 on the line in the feature, Brandon climbed four positions to place fourth. He followed Tim McCreadie, Bobby Pierce, and Hudson O’Neal across the line with Kyle Bronson coming in fifth.
With the 52-car field split into three groups on Wednesday for a trio of preliminary features, Brandon’s qualifying effort locked him into the fourth-starting position $5,000-to-win prelim. Losing two spots in the 20-lap affair, Sheppard posted a sixth-place finish.
For the fourth round of the DIRTcar Nationals on Thursday as the remainder of the week shifted to a World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series sanctioned program, Sheppard came in fifth in his heat before placing fifth in his consolation race, forcing him to use a provisional into the feature. Advancing forward sevens spots, Brandon salvaged an 18th-place outing.
On Saturday evening after Mother Nature axed Friday’s program during heat races, Brandon timed in ninth-fastest in his group before grabbing the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat. Starting the $20,000-to-win DIRTcar Nationals finale in 18th, Sheppard passed 12 cars in the 50-lapper to register a sixth-place finish.
Brandon is currently fourth in the lastest World of Outlaws point standings.
