BShep scores fourth-place finish in Super Bowl of Racing finale at Golden Isles
Brandon Sheppard was back in action on Thursday evening as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) kicked off the 2023 season with the Super Bowl of Racing at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.).
Drawing 50 Late Models for the first round of the three-day event, Sheppard raced his way into the opener with a consolation victory after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat with a fourth-place finish. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Brandon passed 10 cars in the 40-lapper to place ninth.
For another $10,000-to-win program on Friday, Brandon followed up a sixth-place outing in his heat with a seventh-to-second run in his B-Main. Inching forward four spots in the feature, Sheppard salvaged an 18th-place outing.
On Saturday, Sheppard outran Garrett Smith in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory. Earning the sixth-starting position for the $25,000-to-win Super Bowl of Racing finale, Brandon jumped up two spots to register a fourth-place finish. He trailed Brandon Overton, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Tanner English to the checkers with Hudson O’Neal coming in fifth.
Following the LOLMDS to Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Fla.) on Sunday, Brandon came in fifth in his heat before capturing a 10-lap consolation victory. With $10,000 on the line in the feature, Sheppard advanced through the field 11 positions to finish seventh.
With 39 Late Models entered on Monday, Sheppard was forced to use a provisional into the $10,000-to-win A-Main after missing a transfer spot in his heat and B-Main. Passing nine cars in the 40-lap affair, Brandon charged to a 14th-place finish.
