Brandon Sheppard advances to fourth in Battle at the Border opener
Embarking on an eastern swing with the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series, Brandon Sheppard trekked to Stateline Speedway (Busti, N.Y.) on Tuesday afternoon for the New York Stateline Showdown.
Drawing 33 Late Models for the tour’s lone stop in The Empire State, Brandon’s fourth-place finish in his heat pinned him on the seventh row for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Inching forward two spots in the 40-lap affair, Sheppard crossed the line in 12th.
For the Battle at the Border opener on Thursday at Sharon Speedway (Hartford, Ohio), Sheppard stopped the clock fifth-fastest in his time trial group before placing second in his heat. With $6,000 on the line in Thursday’s preliminary feature, Brandon passed four cars to register a fourth-place finish. He trailed Chris Madden, Bobby Pierce, and Mike Marlar to the checkers with Nick Hoffman coming in fifth.
The following night, Brandon raced his way into the final $6,000-to-win prelim with a runner-up finish in his heat race. Moving forward two spots, Sheppard recorded a third-place finish, which came behind Ryan Gustin and Kyle Bronson.
On Saturday, Sheppard grabbed the fourth-and-final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him 16th on the starting grid for the $25,000-to-win Battle at the Border finale. Gaining ground late in the 60-lapper, Brandon salvaged a 14th-place finish.
Brandon is currently sixth in the latest World of Outlaws point standings.
