Brandon Sheppard
Runner-up finish in World 100 preliminary at Eldora Speedway
Hopping behind the wheel of the Longhorn Chassis Rumley Engineering developmental car for the 53rd running of the World 100, Brandon Sheppard invaded Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) on Thursday night for a pair of prelims on Thursday and Friday leading up to Saturday’s finale.
Splitting the 102-car field into two groups, Sheppard nailed the invert correctly as a fourth-place finish in his heat race placed him on the front row for his $12,000-to-win preliminary feature. After pacing the opening five circuits, Brandon surrendered the top spot to Bobby Pierce on lap six and went onto place second in the 25-lapper. He chased Pierce to the checkers with Tim McCreadie rounding out the podium.
For Friday’s preliminary, Brandon laid down the 10th-fastest lap in his 51-car group before scoring a second-place finish in his heat. Weaving through the field five spots in his 25-lap prelim, Sheppard rolled to a fourth-place finish.
Rolling off sixth in his heat race on Saturday based on Eldora’s Every Lap Matters format, Sheppard stormed into the $56,000-to-win World 100 finale with a third-place finish. Wheeling his way into the top-10 in the 100-lapper, Brandon passed eight cars to finish 10th.
